Ben and Helen's Guacamole Recipe

This guacamole recipe was invented by Ben and Helen the night before Flash Burrito! went live. The next day, Steve and Ben gobbled up the leftovers while spending 13 hours non-stop fiddling with cascading style sheets. (Helen's name doesn't have a link because she doesn't want anyone to know that she has anything to do with this site.)

2 avocados, sliced about 1/8" thick, with pits removed

1 vine-ripened tomato, finely chopped

1 tbsp finely chopped cilantro

1/2 habañero pepper, finely chopped. More seeds ⇒ hotter, fewer seeds ⇒ not as hot.

2 tbsp lime juice

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (moscada molida) ←This is the secret ingredient. Don't tell anyone.

some salt

some ground black pepper

Put the avocados into a bowl and mash them up with a fork.

Mix the other ingredients in with a wooden spoon.

A note on buying spices. Don't buy spices in the white-people's section of the grocery store. That's the place where they have lots of little glass bottles with brand names like “Expensive Islands” and “See, This Means I'm Rich or Something.” Over in the Mexican section (sometimes it's called “Ethnic Foods”), they have the exact same spices, but they sell them in plastic bags and for much lower prices—like, one-fifth as much! Learning the Spanish names for spices is not so hard. Better yet, go to a Mexican grocery store. Cheaper and better.

Also, don't buy that pre-ground black pepper that comes in those little metal boxes. It's dead. Buy a pepper mill, and grind the pepper just as you're about to put it in some food. Well, if you don't have a pepper mill, just use the pre-ground pepper. It's better than nothing.
